Commercial Water Damage in DFW, Texas
Flooded storeroom needed water extraction and equipment placed to completely dry out.
This commercial retail space started experiencing flooding during a period of extremely heavy rain in North Texas this year. Water was coming into the store from multiple points, some of which the store was unable to locate. Multiple areas were showing water damage from warehouses to storerooms, and even areas that customers needed to walk through! For safety reasons, it was important to get rid of the water as quickly as possible. Once our crews got on site, they were able to determine that some water was likely leaking up through the floor because of possible foundation issues. The crew got to work right away extracting the water and setting up equipment. Once we had taken care of the standing water, we were able to set up air movers to dry out walls and other surfaces. The store was extremely pleased with our work as we helped them get through a stressful rainy period.

Why Keeping a Clean Workplace is Good for Business
When you are busy trying to meet your company’s goals, keep track of your busy schedule, and still maintain a personal life, the last thing you would think to do is vacuum the floors in your office. Even though cleaning carpets and wiping tables may seem trivial, keeping a clean and tidy workspace is vital to the success of your business. Look at the list below to see why it is so critical to keep your workspace clean and fresh.
- First Impressions are Important
When you first meet someone, what is the first thing you notice about them? Is it their outfit? Can you tell if they have brushed their hair and teeth that morning? Just as you form a first impression of a person by the way they take care of themselves, customers will judge your company on the way your office looks. If you have papers strewn about, dirty floors, and smudges on your walls, it sends a message that you do not care about your work. If a potential client sat down to a business meeting and put their hand in something sticky, they will probably not want to work with you again. Making sure that your floors are clean, desks are tidy, and any spills are quickly cleaned up shows customers and employees that you are a professional business who cares about themselves and their work.
- Boosting Focus
Do you ever have so much to do that you just can’t decide where to start? Or have you ever seen a photo where there was so much to look at that you couldn’t take it all in? The same principle applies to your workspace. If you have clutter all over the place, muddy tracks on your carpet, and stains on the floor left over from last years Christmas party, it can be hard for anyone to stay focused on their work; especially if employees must take time away from their work to get rid of a mess in the lobby or other part of the building. Having a clean environment can help your employees focus on what matters rather than fixating on the mess surrounding them.
- Healtheir Employees
The average person spends around 8 hours a day in their workplace, so they will definitely be exposed to anything that is floating through the air or growing on the walls of the building. There are a huge number of indoor air pollutants, so investing in an air filter and making sure your systems are properly cleaned and cared for will help make sure that your employees aren’t inhaling any negative substances while they are on the job. Keeping walls, ceilings, and floors cleaned is an important part of making sure that no harmful substances in the office could be harming your employees.

Do You Know Where Your Commercial Water Shut Off Is?
I remember when I worked retail, we had an employee only bathroom, the exception being small children IF they are accompanied by an adult. One of my coworkers let a child go back without a parent. Long story short, we had a diaper situation that lead to a burst pipe. At the time, we had no idea where our water shut off was and it would have been really helpful to know that information.
So, if something happens in your commercial location (retail, office or even a warehouse) do you know where your water shut off is? What about your employees? SERVPRO of Lake Worth/Benbrook can help you avoid massive damages by assisting you in creating a plan for when disaster strikes! With our Emergency Ready Profile, we can make a plan of action for any event whether it’s a storm, water, or fire disaster. It will contain important information to help you minimize the damage, and provide important information such as the location of the water shut off valve so that you can be prepared for the worst. This is a free service to anyone in the Lake Worth/Benbrook and surrounding areas.

Cleaning Your Cubicle
You spend a lot of hours in your cubicle a week, 40 hours or more! It tends to get a little dirty and disorganized. It’s important to give it a good clean every once and a while so you can feel and be more productive. You should split everything into categories, so you’re not completely overwhelmed when you get down to business.
- Supplies: Take an audit of what all you need on your desk during the work day. Pens, sticky notes, a note pad, scissors, staplers, and tape? Those can all stay on your desk. Get a little cup for your writing utensils to keep them out of the way and not in a disorganized pile. Move anything else you don’t use to a neatly organized drawer in your desk.
- Papers: If you don’t need it: toss it. If you think you might need it, then try and file it away in hanging files or on manila folders on your desk. You can even scan it in and save a PDF of it later. Make sure to shred your papers if you throw them away, however.
- Food: Keep it off the top of your desk and put it in a drawer. Throw out that box of crackers you purchased 3 months ago and only ate once. Wash your dirty coffee mugs, dispose of your water bottles, and maybe put the 75 Chick-Fil-A Sauce packets you have in your desk in the break room.
- Clothing: Don’t have your closet at your desk. Keep a sweater on the back of your chair, and your gym clothes in a bag under your desk.
- Personal Stuff: Keep your decorative things down to three-five things only at your desk. small decorations, Framed pictures, and maybe even a fern are all great things to have on your desk. It’s okay to make your space your own and personalize it, just don’t go overboard. If you have lotions, hand sanitizer, or lip balm keep it in the top shelf of your desk or in your purse.
When you’ve got your space decluttered and clear, start giving it a deep cleaning! Dust and wipe down all the surfaces with a disinfectant wipe. Use some canned air to blow the food from your keyboard or turn it upside down over a trash can and give it a good shake, wipe down your computer screen, and enjoy your newly organized space!
For all your other office deep cleaning give SERVPRO of Lake Worth/Benbrook a call at 817.560.3086.
Water Damage and Commercial Buildings
Water losses and commercial properties. They go together as well as toothpaste and orange juice, which is to say that that don’t. Water loss can cause a lot of time lost, which means it can cause a lot of revenue to be lost on top of the cost it’ll take to fix the damage.
Aside from storms, you can keep ahead of the damage by doing regular maintenance checks on your commercial space. Below are the four most common ways for water to cause damage to your business.
- Sewer Lines
Sewer backups are unexpected and can’t really be attended to with regular maintenance. However, they are messy. If you suffer from a back up or break, then you have the potential for black water which is water that is contaminated with sewage or bacteria. It could cause illness or even death.
- Sprinkler Systems
Sprinkler systems can leak, and they can damage a lot especially if the water is just pouring out, which has been known to happen. Do regular checks to make sure the system isn’t faulty, or in need of repair – if it does, call a repairman to avoid damage.
Pipes can cause a number of different headaches. A slow leak could cause problems like mold. A burst pipe can cause hundreds if not thousands of gallons to flood your office space. In the winter time, drip your faucets so they don’t freeze. It’s also a good idea to have a plumber come out and inspect them.
When we get rain in North Texas, WE GET RAIN. It’s a good idea to have your roof routinely inspected to prevent leaks. Especially right before the spring storm season.
